Durga
also known as Devi, Amba and Shakti
Durga is turned to for protection, strength, and the courage to overcome. Many honour the Mother on Fridays and through the nine nights of Navratri — traditions to lean on, never rules.
mantras for Durga
ॐ दुं दुर्गायै नमः
Om Dum Durgayai Namah
the story tradition tells
Devotees offer red flowers and a lit lamp, asking for the protective strength of the Mother — courage in difficulty, and the clearing away of what darkens a house. Navratri gathers all of it into nine nights of worship, closing in Vijayadashami's victory of good over what opposed it.
if you keep a vrat
Some fast through Navratri, some on Fridays, many not at all. A Devi vrat is traditionally broken after the evening aarti — and during Navratri follows the festival's own timing. Every form of it is optional.
festivals that honour Durga
meet Durga every morning
In the Sankalp app, your morning can open with a darshan of the deity you choose — a painterly portrait, a mantra, a moment before the feed. Tradition suggests; you decide.
